![]() Nice parks on the north end of town too and campus museums as well. Ann Arbor is probably known for more nightlife than anywhere else. Jackson, MI has an old (and present) prison to tour and the beautiful Cascade Park. Marshall, MI has several small museums and small town charm that holds a true shine in the state. Downtown has a depot you can eat at, and some other options on Michigan. Battle Creek, MI has the beautiful Federal Building which you can tour, and Binder Park Zoo. Michigan ave and Kalamazoo Zoo has plenty of options for eating and dining. Kalamazoo has highlights like Kalamazoo Airzoo and Gilmore Car Museum. Saint Joseph, MI nearby makes a nice stroll down the pier. Coming in on 94 Warren Dunes State Park will impress. Do go - you won't regret it.Īnswer: I think all the replies above shed some good light on the state. Prices are high, but for the experience, worthwhile. Certainly if you are hungry this is also a great place for lunch/dinner - the sandwiches are legendary and large - easily split between two people. Crowded and hard to navigate easily, this was just as it should be in a deli/store such as this! Wonderful. This place is crowded and packed tightly with shelves, display cases, people handing out samples and customers. We are foodies, so we went to Zingerman's as well and spent nearly an hour shopping for those little unusual finds that do a happy dance on your tongue. If you plan to visit for the first time- do so on the weekend and get the full experience. ![]() There was no farmer's market on the day we visited - and that was too bad as this area bustles when the market is open. It takes just an hour or so to go through it all, unless you're one to stop in all shops and touch all things.then, maybe two hours. Glad we did!!! There is something for everyone - gourmet food/shops, paper goods/art supplies, artisian shops and clothing stores - though there are not as many shops in the building as I had thought/hoped. We haven't been to Kerrytown in a long time so decided to visit with out of town friends. People are always friendly and it's nice to see the bustle in this diverse and eclectic college town. We visit Ann Arbor two or three times a year and love wandering the downtown streets and small shops, the campus and museums and also some of the nice small parks dotting the city. I definitely recommend everyone come visit this exhibition: on view from now until June 2024. It also seeks to foster a sense of belonging for displaced Indigenous peoples fighting for restitution. This installation challenges visitors to reflect on how they have benefited from the legacies of colonization, to consider where they stand, and where to go from here. Presented alongside the typography are paintings of imagined decolonized landscapes and a symbolic cache of provisions. Written across the walls above and around the memorial, a statement proclaims Anishinaabe rights to the land we stand on: “You are on Anishinaabe Land.” To say I was thrilled to see Ojibwe written on a huge vertical wall in the middle of a public space is an understatement! In Andrea Carlson’s Future Cache, a 40-foot-tall memorial wall towers over visitors, commemorating the Cheboiganing (Burt Lake) Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians who were violently burned from their land in Northern Michigan on October 15, 1900. ![]() My favorite exhibition was UMMA’s Vertical Gallery, with art by Andrea Carlson. I was pleasantly surprised to find FOUR Picassos on display! I focused my attention on the Chinese and Korean art galleries, as well as the Modern and Contemporary Art. I only had a very short time to visit, a little over an hour, but I was able to see quite a bit in that time. Bathrooms are located on the very bottom floor (don’t be fooled by the closet area next to the coat racks at check-in!) This is also where the Study Cases are located and, in my opinion, some of the best artwork in the gallery: the Inuit carvings are striking and hauntingly beautiful. There are stairs connecting the various floors but there are also elevators and everything is disability accessible. A great way to spend an afternoon just pursuing the spaces of this gorgeous gallery. Fantastic free art gallery located at the heart of the University of Michigan campus.
